Traveling from the UK

If you’re flying from the UK, we recommend spending a few days exploring Oslo. The wedding will be held in Nesodden, which is just outside Oslo and very easy to reach.

You can fly to Oslo from the following UK airports:

We suggest comparing prices on the airlines’ official websites before booking. For those traveling with only hand luggage, Norwegian’s “Low Fare Calendar” often has good deals:

Similarly, SAS offers discounted “SAS Young” tickets if you’re 25 or under.

Important: Oslo has two airports, Gardermoen (OSL) and Torp (TRF). Be sure to book flights to Gardermoen (OSL). Many websites simply list Gardermoen as “Oslo Airport,” which can be confusing.

Since the wedding is on Saturday, June 14, consider arriving around Thursday, June 12 and returning on Monday, June 16. This gives you time to explore Oslo and provides a buffer in case of travel delays.

Sightseeing in Oslo

Oslo is home to about a million residents. Two days is usually enough to see its main attractions, which include:

Although Norway can be pricey, its currently weak currency makes it more affordable for UK travelers. Keep in mind that most places in Norway accept card payments only; cash is rarely used.

Charlton Kings – Heathrow

If you live in Charlton Kings, you’re in luck: the National Express 444 coach goes directly from Charlton Kings (Bradley Road) to Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, taking about 2:00–2:15 hours. The coach is comfortable, reliable, and reasonably priced (around £23 per trip). Aim to arrive at Heathrow at least three hours before your flight so your travel insurance remains valid.

Heathrow – Oslo airport (Gardermoen)

The flight to Oslo takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes, often with two rounds of complimentary tea and coffee.

Oslo airport – Oslo

Oslo Airport is quite far from the city center, so avoid taking a taxi. Instead, hop on the Flytoget express train. It departs every 10 minutes and reaches central Oslo in about 20 minutes.

All tickets are valid for 180 days from purchase, so you can buy them well in advance. If you’re buying an adult ticket, you can simply tap your contactless card at the gate (no app required). Tickets may also be purchased physically at the airport.

Look for the overhead LED screens to find the right platform. Despite having different terminating stops, all Flytoget trains go via the center of Oslo.

Accommodation

There are no hotels in Nesodden, but traveling there from Oslo is quick and straightforward. On the wedding day, you’ll be taking a ferry from Aker Brygge, so we recommend finding a hotel near that ferry terminal. However, hotels in central Oslo can be expensive, while public transport is affordable and reliable—so consider lodging farther out.

We suggest searching on Booking.com or Airbnb.

Oslo – Wedding location (Nesodden)

To navigate Oslo, you’ll need the Ruter public transport app. You can buy single tickets or a multi-day (period) pass. Traveling to Nesodden involves two zones: Zone 1 (central Oslo) and Zone 2S. If you have a Zone 1 period ticket, you still need a single ticket for Zone 2S when traveling to Nesodden; if you don’t have a period ticket, you’ll need a single ticket covering both zones for each journey.

Here’s the easiest way to purchase the correct tickets:

Nesodden is located across the Oslofjord from the city. Firstly, you need to get to the boat terminal at Aker Brygge, located here:

Then, you have two options, both costing the same:

Scenic Route (Recommended)

Take the B21 boat from Aker Brygge to Fagerstrand. The boat departs at 10:00 AM and arrives at 11:00 AM. From Fagerstrand, it’s a 30-minute walk to the venue, but we’ll coordinate shuttles from the terminal. Please let us know in advance if you plan to take this ferry so we can arrange transportation from Fagerstrand boat terminal to the Church.

Important: This boat only goes once in the morning, so if you miss it, your only remaining option is to take “The Fast Route” departing at 10:03 AM or 10:33 AM.

Fast Route (Ideal for Early Arrivals)

Take the B10 boat from Aker Brygge to Nesoddtangen (it departs every 30 minutes). Upon arrival, follow the crowd to the four waiting buses. Board the 575 bus heading for “Fagerstrand” and ride for about 33 minutes until you reach Gjøfjell. The church will be visible from there.

If you take this route, the latest ferry you should catch is 10:33 AM (arriving at Gjøfjell around 11:31 AM, 29 minutes before the service). We recommend the 10:03 AM ferry to arrive earlier.

Wedding location – Oslo

The entire wedding celebration is at the same location, so you can easily walk between the church and the reception.

Once the day is over, you will need to take the 575 bus from Myklerud (near the reception venue) to Nesoddtangen, then catch the B10 ferry back to Oslo. Note that Myklerud is by the reception venue, whereas Gjøfjell bus stop is by the church.

In the evening, buses go at quarter past the hour, every hour. The party ends at 1 AM, so we’d recommend catching the bus from Myklerud at 1:15 AM. If you miss this bus, the last one is at 2:15 AM. Be sure to wait on the correct side of the road, as pictured.

Oslo – Oslo airport

The express train Flytoget will take you back to the airport. You can buy tickets via the app, a ticket machine, or use contactless (for adult tickets). You will only need to show or tap your ticket upon arriving at Oslo Airport to pass through the gates. You can board Flytoget from any of the following stations: Lysaker, Skøyen, Nationaltheateret, or Oslo S.
